There is also amazing Sheepshead, Sea Bass, Red Fish and Trout fishing in the waters near Daufuskie Island. Daufuskie Island also has access to amazing deep sea sport fishing. The more eco-conscience will appreciate kayak fishing from stable pontoon style kayaks powered by whisper quiet electric motors, and equipped with Bimini tops to beat the heat. Or you can take a paddle-powered kayak deep into oyster bars and tidal creeks, or fish the saltmarsh at places other boats can’t venture.
Awesome Daufuskie Island fishing can be had year round. Fall brings good Redfish, Flounder and Speckled Trout fishing. Winter fishing is more tide oriented than it is at any other time of the year. However, good fishing opportunities are available under the right conditions during the winter, including bottom fishing at one of the many near shore reefs for Sheepshead, Black Sea Bass, Gray Trout, Sharpnose Shark and Spiny Dogfish. During the spring it is not uncommon to catch a Cobia weighing over 50 pounds. Bait fishing is the most common method for catching Cobia but artificial lures and flies are also used. Triple Tail, Spanish Mackerel, Blue Fish and several types of sharks are also caught in the spring. Daufuskie Island fishing in the summer means the exciting arrival of Tarpon. These huge fish, weighing an average of 75 to 115 pounds, are one of the most exciting inshore fish to catch due to the explosive long runs and incredible leaping ability that makes them such a hard fought catch.
